DISCOVER THE ENDANGERED WILDLIFE OF MKOMAZI NATIONAL PARK IN TANZANIA

Mkomazi National Park, located in northeastern Tanzania on the Kenyan border, is a significant protected area forming part of the larger Mkomazi-Tsavo ecosystem. Initially established as a game reserve in 1951, it was upgraded to a national park in 2006, encompassing an area of approximately 3,245 square kilometers. Mkomazi is home to a variety of wildlife typical of arid regions, including species like giraffe, oryx, gerenuk, hartebeest, lesser kudu, eland, impala, and Grant's gazelle. It also supports populations of elephants, buffalo, and various predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Notably, Mkomazi is a vital refuge for two highly endangered species: the black rhinoceros, protected within a dedicated sanctuary, and the African wild dog. Bird watchers will find it a haven with over 450 recorded species, including unique dry-country specials.
